Hutton and Howick Women’s Institute Newsletter July 2010 2011 diaries and calendar orders are now being taken - £3 for calendar, £3.50 for diaries. What’s happening this month: July 8th and 22nd HHWI - Craft Club meet here. July 10th HHWI Strawberry Fayre The hall will be open from 11am for your contributions of cakes, pies, flans, scones, plants, books, prizes etc. Would you please sign the list on the table if you are going to make scones for the teas? And if you’re prepared to do a 30min stint in the kitchen, could you please see Joan Braithwaite? July 12th HHWI - Walking Group, leaving here at 9.30am to drive to Inglewhite for a 4 mile walk with a few substantial stiles. Parking/lunching at the Green Man where meals can be chosen before setting off. July 15th HHWI - Book Club meet at Sonia’s to discuss Arnalder Indridason’s “Silence of the Grave.” July 20th and 21st LFWI 10 for 10.30 - 12.30 - Chipping Village Hall and then Scarisbrick Village Hall - ”Rubbish” - LCC’s explanation of where our rubbish goes, recycling, how to combat climate change, getting youth involved. £3. July 21st LFWI 7.30pm - Clayton-le-Woods Singers summer concert in Leyland Methodist Community Centre. £5 to pay at the door. Next month: August 2nd Summer Outing 5.30pm HHWI -Blackpool‘s “Hot Ice Show” Still a few spaces. August 5th HHWI - “Brassed Off” at Lowther Theatre. No coach, members make own way. August 10th LFWI 9.30 for 10am - Walks for members and non-members from Nether Kellet Village Hall. Free parking, free tea and coffee at lunch time. Packed lunch needed. 6.5 mile walk through limestone country, some stiles, short steep inclines. No dogs allowed. August 16th LFWI !0am-1pm ‘Now I’m in Charge’ 4 day course for possible Presidents. £5 August 18th LFWI 10 for 10.30 - 3pm - A Croquet Taster Day at Southport and Birkdale Croquet Club whatever the weather. Packed lunch necessary, flat shoes, trainers ideal. 8.50. For the future: September 4th - New Longton Show. If you would like to make cakes for our stall for this event please take them to the Village Hall on the Saturday morning. September 11th LFWI - ‘Quickfire Patchwork’ craft session at WI Office 10am-3pm. £12. September 21st LFWI -County Show Preview and dinner, Garstang Golf Club, £21 September 29th-Oct.1st Dabble Days at Alston Hall - with a Victorian theme. £185 basic. October 6th LFWI - Autumn Council Meeting 10.45am-3.30pm, Charter Theatre, Preston. October 14th HHWI - Gilbert and Sullivan at Lowther Theatre - please sign list. October 14th LFWI 12.30pm-Shaw Hill Golf Club, Chorley, Lunch and Fashion Show, £21 October 25th 10-3.30pm LFWI - Choral Singing for Pleasure at Broughton £10. October 26th LFWI 10-12noon -How local is local food? £5.00. December 2nd - 7th LFWI - 6 day trip to German Christmas Markets. £358. December 9th HHWI-Manchester trip still a few spaces available.
